The Story of English in 100 Words
Very interesting book especially for those who, like myself don't know much about linguistics and English linguistics in particular.
There are 100 words (one word each chapter), in chronological order of when they first appeared in the language. Each chapter tells a story, which reflects the culture and rules of that particular time. And when taken together this is a real history of English, or at least a peculiar intro to it.
Anyway, the book is a pure joy, I would recommend to everyone.
